A Moment of Recognition: Wearable Art in a Curated

Certain moments quietly confirm the direction of a practice.

Being selected to participate in a curated artist showcase at Nordstrom in Atlanta—presented in connection with the city’s edition of Dîner en Blanc—was one of those moments.

I was invited as one of six artists to present a hand-selected capsule of wearable works for the occasion. Rather than a full collection, the presentation focused on a refined selection of pieces chosen to exist within a highly intentional environment—where restraint, elegance, and visual clarity were essential.

Dîner en Blanc is an internationally recognized cultural gathering rooted in ceremony, aesthetic discipline, and collective presence. For the Atlanta edition, the visual language of the evening—white, with subtle variation and nuance—guided the curation.

Working within a white and metallics palette required precision. Limitation sharpened the work rather than reducing it. Each piece was selected for its ability to stand independently while remaining in conversation with its surroundings—present without excess, expressive without

Moments like this are not departures from my practice, but confirmations of it.

My work has always lived at the intersection of presence and recognition—objects created to be worn, encountered, and returned to over time. Whether on the body or within a space, the intention remains the same: to create art that holds its ground quietly

This presentation was one such moment—placing wearable art within a context where design, culture, and lived experience

Moments of recognition are rarely solitary.

I am deeply grateful to  Dr. Yazzy of Maison Nyanga, whose recommendation to the Dîner en Blanc committee made this opportunity possible. Acts of advocacy—especially those rooted in discernment and belief—carry forward in ways that are often unseen, yet enduring.

I also wish to acknowledge Dr. Courtney A. Hammonds — The Dean of Fashion™, whose leadership and encouragement during the showcase offered grounding, affirmation, fashion prowess, artistic direction, and encouragement throughout the event. Support, when given with sincerity, becomes part of the work itself. Thank you “New Muse” for thr ”CAH Moments”.  https://www.imdrcah.com/

Finally, I wish to recognize my sister, whose quiet assistance throughout the event made it possible for the work to be presented with care and ease. Her support was both practical and personal—an extension of the steadiness, trust, and love that surround this art beyond what is visible.

These gestures of belief and encouragement remain with me, informing not only how the work is made, but how it continues to move in the world.

The work continues.
